Stardate:2406.11.28 (Academy – Cadet Quarters – Ensign Jonas Lemar – 16:00) Jonas was moving quickly around his quarters, picking up his belongings and carrying them over to the bed.  Already he had emptied his drawer and begun placing the clothes neatly into a small bag which was open, and filling up quite quickly. =/\= …I’m so very proud of you Jona, your father will very excited … you know how he gets … =/\= While packing, Jonas had decided to call his parents with the news, “I know mother, I can hardly believe it myself.”  Jonas turned to a shelf at the side of his bed and began looking quickly through books he had there.  There wasn’t room to take everything, so he decided to take only one or two of his favourite books.  Near to the door, the communications panel in the wall was active, with the open channel to Mrs. Lemar, Jonas’s mother.  The small viewscreen showed the obviously very happy woman.  =/\= When will we expect you home to visit?  You’re fathers transport arrives this evening from Trill =/\= Jonas stopped and approached the viewscreen with a smile, "Mother, you know I can't come home.  There just isn’t time." Mrs Lemar’s face saddened, =/\= But we haven’t seen you for 3 weeks now =/\= "I know, but these aren’t normal circumstances.  The admiral has already arranged for my transfer and they need me at my new posting." There was a sigh, =/\= I suppose I’ll have to wait a while longer to see my baby at home again then.  I hope this Captain Sash knows how lucky he is. =/\= Jonas laughed and said with a hint of sarcasm, "I'm sure he does mother" =/\= Well that’s good then.  You make sure they treat you right.  I can ask your father to have words with Mr. Sash if you like =/\= "Mother!" =/\= Alright, alright.  I’m just saying. =/\=  The woman looked off screen for a moment, then came back into view  =/\= I’m sorry Jona, my next appointment is here.  I have to go =/\= "I'll call you when I get to Geneva.  I love you mum." =/\= I love you too, my little Jona =/\=  With that, the woman blew a kiss to the screen and the image vanished, replaced with the Starfleet insignia and a black screen. Jonas couldn’t help but smile.  Deep down, he was still his mothers little baby, and although he might dislike other people knowing it, he was happy with things that way.  Being an only child, Jonas had always been centre of attention, and even now at the age of 27, he was still there, in the centre. He deactivated the terminal and returned to his open bag.  He put in the book he was holding and zipped the bag closed and slung it over his shoulder.  He moved toward the door and stopped in front of a large mirror on his wall.  He looked himself up and down and dusted off his shoulder, more out of habit than necessity. ~The blue and grey colours suited me~ He thought to himself as he looked over his new uniform.  He had already disregarded his grey cadet jumpsuit and switched for the black, grey and blue of the Starfleet uniform.  Again, he smiled and eyed his new rank pin.  He leaned over to the shelf and picked up his comm. badge and fixed it to his chest. "Computer, what time is it?" =/\= The time is 16:12 =/\= Jonas looked himself over one last time, gave a quick nod of satisfaction and made a move toward the door.  It was time to leave, after all he did have a shuttle catch. (reply: none) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.28 (San Francisco - Shuttle Transport Station, Terminal Foyer - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 17:05) =/\= Orbital Transport Six is now boarding at Gate 21 =/\= The loudspeaker announcement echoed throughout the entire complex. Crowds of people moved up and down the foyer and adjoining corridors. Most were civilians, though every now and then, someone in a Starfleet uniform could be spotted amongst the rush. Jonas came to a stop as he approached Gate 21. There was a small line of people, waiting to have their identification checked by the stewardess so Jonas moved to join the back of the queue. The line moved fairly quickly and within a few minutes, Jonas found himself at the front of the line and face to face with beaming woman. Her smile didn't falter as she said, "Good afternoon sir" She reached out for the travel card which Jonas was holding. He handed it to her and she quickly turned and tapped at her console. Moments later she looked back up, the smile still on her near perfect face, "Thank you Ensign Lemar, have a good journey." She handed him back the card and Jonas nodded and turned toward the open doorway nearby. Out of the corner of his eye, Jonas noticed some other Starfleet personnel heading in his direction. He looked over with curiosity as he approached the open doorway. There were two men, each wearing the yellow colours of Starfleet uniforms. Both men appeared to be moving directly toward him now. At this, Jonas stopped in his tracks and waited as the two men reached him and came to a halt. One of the men spoke, "Ensign Jonas Lemar?" Jonas felt all of a sudden very uncomfortable. His eyes darted around and he noticed everyone in the queue of passengers looking over at the commotion. The stewardess was doing her best to distract them from the scene. By their demeanour, Jonas deduced that these men were security officers. "That's correct. Can I be of any assistance?" Jonas remained calm and spoke with air of confidence. The second of the two men spoke now, "There has been a change in your travel arrangements." The man showed no sort of facial expression, making it very difficult for Jonas to gauge the validity of his claim. "You are to accompany us." By the look on the officers face, he wasn't going to take no for an answer. Jonas had no reason to distrust these fellow officers and agreed, "Very well, lead on." With a nod, the men turned and headed away from the open door and back in the direction from which they had come. Jonas followed, glancing over at the line of people, their eyes still watching him. Jonas smiled at the small crowd and looked forward and ignored them. (reply: none) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.28 (San Francisco - Shuttle Transport Station, Transporter Room Five - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 17:27) After a short walk, in near complete silence, the two men came to halt outside a large grey doorway. The clearly marked sign above the doorway read 'Transporter Room 5'. ~I wonder where I'm transporting to~ Jonas had a confused look on his face. ~I wonder why I'm transporting instead of getting on the shuttle~ "Step this way Ensign" One of the men spoke, then turned again toward the grey doors. They slide aside to reveal an un-manned room. He walked in and approached the control console as Jonas moved to follow. As he stepped inside, the other security officer followed behind then allowed the doors to slide closed. The transporter looked standard, 6 pads to one side, a control console to the other. ~Strange that no-one is manning this station, especially in a public sector~ "Where are we transporting to?" Jonas had held back his questions until now. He had many he was itching to ask but he had kept quiet as he just assumed he would be told the answers in due time. That didn't appear to be the case. The officer at the control console answered Jonas, "Our ship is in orbit. We're to take you to Geneva." Jonas was confused. His shuttlecraft was due to take him to the starbase. What was the need for another ship to take him? The officer looked up from the controls and saw the obviously confusion on the ensign's face. For the first time, he let a smile creep to his lips, albeit for just a split second, "Everything will be explained once you're aboard." There was very little Jonas could say or do, so he said nothing more and did as he was told. (USS Tremain - Transport Room - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 17:36) Jonas shuddered as he moved to step down from the transporter pad. He had used the transporter many times before but he couldn't help but feel a tingling sensation each time he used it. As he looked around, he saw he was now in a much smaller room. There were now only three transporter pads, where moments before he had been standing on a group of six. He also noticed a much sleeker design than on the surface. As he stood on the deck he was approached by a woman dressed in a command uniform. She smiled and extended her hand toward Jonas. He shook her hand and smiled in return, momentarily losing the confusion from his expression, although it quickly returned. "I'm Commander Wallace. Welcome aboard the Tremain." She turned toward the door, which was already open, "If you'll follow me." With that she left the room. Still a little bewildered, Jonas followed and rushed out of the doorway. He quickly caught up with the commander, "Commander, I am a little confused" "I thought you might be" she replied with a hint of laughter in her voice, "We were scheduled to head to Geneva an hour ago but we ran into one or two delays. We received a communication from the Academy so we've stuck around to give you and some of the other Ensigns a ride." The commander suddenly stopped, "That is unless you'd prefer to spend 18 hours in a transport shuttle?" Jonas shook his head, "No ma'am" The commander smiled, "I thought you'd say that." She continued along the corridor, "I've arranged some temporary quarters for you. You'll have everything you need in there and you'll be notified when we arrive." Jonas simply nodded and continued to follow as the commander strode down the corridor. He struggled to keep her pace, but managed all the same. (USS Tremain - Guest Quarters - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 17:52) "Bathroom area is over there and the replicator is here" Commander Wallace smiled, "Might I recommend something from Set Menu 4a" Jonas placed his baggage on the deeply cushioned seating and moved across the quarters to the window. The star-scape filled his view and his thoughts were already running wild, missing his family. Somehow, the fact he was no longer on the planet made everything so real, so final. He was about to leave his home planet, probably for a very long time. Was he ready? Whatever the answer, Jonas was leaving and there was no turning back now. He was aboard a Nova-Class starship in orbit of his home. Very soon he would be light-years away. The commander moved toward the exit and looked again over to Jonas, who was still stood in the window. She shook her head with a smile. ~Another rookie ensign going into the field~ She had seen many and Jonas was different. "Enjoy to trip Ensign" These were her final words and she stepped outside of the quarters. The doors closed behind her. She looked quickly up and down the corridor. Once she saw noone was about she tapped her comm. badge, "Wallace to the Bridge" =/\= Go ahead commander =/\= "Our last guest is settled in. We're ready to break orbit." =/\= Thank you commander =/\= Commander Wallace started off back down the corridor and begun to make her way to the bridge. (reply: none) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.28 (USS Tremain - Guest Quarters - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 17:52) The commander moved toward the exit and looked again over to Jonas, who was still stood in the window. She shook her head with a smile. ~Another rookie ensign going into the field~ She had seen many and Jonas was no different. "Enjoy the trip Ensign" These were her final words and she stepped outside of the quarters. NRPG: And now the continuation. RPG: Mission: Reporting In, Day 2 (USS Tremain - Guest Quarters - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 05:36) Jonas stirred and awoke. As he opened his eyes the darkness of his room was flooded with red warning lights and soon after he could hear the faint klaxon that signified that the ship had gone to red alert. He sat up and swung his legs out of the bed to stand. No sooner had he done so the ship shook and Jonas lost his footing. Unsure of whether he should do anything, Jonas remained on the floor and anticipated a second shock. It never came. Jonas stood and decided not to try and go back to sleep. Instead he moved toward the wash area and started to run the tap. After running the tap cold for a few moments, he splashed water on his face to wake himself up fully. Jonas grabbed a nearby towel and dabbed his face dry. He replaced the towel and made his way across his quarters to get dressed back into his uniform. The hull shuddered, not as badly this time so Jonas had chance to steady himself. Jonas shook his head and decided to get dressed and see if he could find something out. He realised that he wasn't supposed to leave his quarters during Red Alert so he had to see what sort of access to the computer he had. It didn't take him long and in just over a minute he was dressed and into his uniform. The ship buffeted again, however, this time Jonas did not need to guess at what was going on. He dashed over to the window to catch another glimpse of what had caught his eye. As he stared out of the window, he could see another vessel flying near by. The star-scape was swirling before him so he could only assume that the Tremain was performing some kind of erratic manoeuvres. Jonas tried to make out the other vessel. He noticed it turn and head back toward them. Within moments he was able to make out that the other vessel was a fighter craft of some kind, although he could not discern its class as it was too distant or too small. He watched as it discharged its weapons and blue/white energy flew at the Tremain. The ship rocked violently as the shots impacted, absorbed by the powerful shields of the advanced scout ship, the Nova-Class. Soon after, Jonas lost sight of the other ship as the star-scape spiralled and the Tremain changed direction. Within seconds the star-scape changed again and he could tell that the Tremain had jumped to warp speed. Jonas slumped in his seat. ~This is a little too much action for what I'm used to~ he thought to himself. (USS Tremain - Guest Quarters - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 08:45) It was about an hour before the red alert was cancelled and Jonas began to relax again. However it was a good while after that that Jonas decided to pluck up the courage to exit his quarters and have a look around. Armed with a tricorder in his holster, Jonas headed toward the doorway. The doors slid open and light from the corridor flooded into the room. After looking both ways he started to head off down one of the corridors in search of a turbolift. Jonas had gotten no more than a few paces when a voice came from behind him, "Going somewhere Ensign?" The voice was familiar, a female voice with authority. Jonas turned to face the inquisitor a recognised the woman immediately. It was Commander Wallace. "I was going to stretch my legs" It wasn't exactly the truth, but it wasn't a lie either. He did need to get out of his quarters and stretch his legs. Jonas smiled and waited for the commanders' response. The commander simply smiled and nodded, "I just stopped by to make sure you have everything you need" Jonas couldn't help but feel suspicious. However, he was unable to contain his curiosity and decided to question the commander, "For the most part, although I was woken rather early" The commander smiled again and replied, "Yes, unfortunately we hit a subspace pocket. It caused havoc with the engines and we had some serious turbulence." ~Turbulence? Surly the commander doesn't expect me to believe that~ Jonas was unsure what to say next. He knew what he had seen, another ship firing on them. ~Why the big secret? And why the 'cloak and dagger' routine at the Transport Station?~ These were questions that Jonas didn't dare ask. He didn't want to appear disrespectful. He didn't even know if he wanted to hear the answers but it was no good. Jonas had been raised to analytical and to question everything. He wasn't about to stop now. "Commander, with all due respect, I know for a fact that was no subspace pocket. I saw the whole thing from the window in my quarters." The commanders' face lost its smile, "Then I assume you have a few questions?" She indicated with her hand for Jonas to return to his quarters. Jonas did so, and stepped back through the doorway, the commander following behind him. As the door closed, the commander addressed the computer, "Computer, level 10 lock down of this room, clearance Wallace..2..3..9..7." The computer chimed, =/\= Level 10 security lock down of Guest Quarters 34a is in effect =/\= After a moments pause, the commander continued, "What I am about to tell you is classified information and will not leave this room until we reach our destination. Is that understood?" ~Oh my god! What have I gotten myself into?~ Jonas nodded and listened intently, quashing his panicking inner voice. "The Federation is on the brink of civil war, or more accurately, Starfleet is." The commander paused for the obvious reaction on Jonas's face. ~This is a practical joke, it must be. Like Starfleet could ever be at war . with itself. That just doesn't make sense~ a hundred questions flooded into his head, but Jonas kept everything bottled as he continued to listen to the commander. "This information is kept under wraps for obvious reasons." The commander took a moment to review some information on her PADD, "Tell me what you know about Starbase Geneva.and the USS Nimitz" Jonas shook his head, "I know very little ma'am. Geneva is a trading and resupply base in the beta quadrant, the USS Nimitz is an Ambassador-Class that patrols the area." The smile returned to the commanders' lips, "What If I were to tell you that Starbase Geneva is one of the most advanced facilities in the beta-quadrant, Truidin-Class?" Just as Jonas didn't think he could become any more shocked, he was. He had only heard of the Truidin-Class starbase but never known that any actually existed. "And what if I told you that the USS Nimitz was a Sovereign-Class, the most advanced battleship in the fleet?" ~Why keep this information so quiet? Why does this contradict everything I've been previously told?~ Jonas was unsure whether to believe what the commander was telling him. The commander smiled, "I know, it sounds like I'm making things up, but I can assure you it is true. By tomorrow night you will see for yourself anyway." She waved her PADD toward the window, "And as for the subspace pocket?" Jonas gave the commander a look and she knew at once he really didn't believe that story. "You were correct. That is our cover story. The truth was that was a Starfleet patrol, a wing of Attack Fighters. Someone really doesn't want us to get you Ensigns to Geneva." ~Wow, is that really true? It's a lot easier to accept that it was a Romulan attack . or even Pirates.~ Jonas let out a sigh. This was a lot to accept all in one go, but it did fill in a lot of the gaps and explain a few of the strange situations he had found himself in since leaving the academy. "And that's the reason for the secretive departure from Earth? Why we were transported instead of shuttled off the planet?" The commander nodded, "There was a warden onboard that shuttle, waiting for you. They would probably have tried to place a tracking beacon on you or something." Jonas began to fully understand his situation, and although he was frustrated at being kept in the dark, he was much more at rest now he knew the truth. It was strange, to know that everything he thought was solid and good, wasn't. All of a sudden, the lights dimmed again and red light began to flash in the walls. The commander jumped up from where she sat, "Computer, release security lock down, clearance Wallace..2..3..9..7" =/\= Security lockdown of Guest Quarters 34a has been removed =/\= The commander made her move toward the doorway, "Remember what I said Ensign, classified." Jonas nodded, "Yes sir, ma'am." Suddenly the commanders comm. badge chirped, "Commander Wallace, report to the Bridge". She continued out of the quarters and doors closed behind her, leaving Jonas alone with his thoughts in the dimmed quarters. (reply: none) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.29 (USS Tremain - Guest Quarters - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 16:22) The day had been mostly uneventful. Other than the apparent skirmish with another patrol, just as Commander Wallace had left him, the ride had been fairly smooth. Jonas had taken to reading up on some recent medical papers, recently released by various doctors across the Federation. He was part way through an interesting report on Chrono-radiation therapy when the emergency lighting turned to yellow. Jonas would hardly have noticed had he not been gazing at the walls in deep thought. Jonas placed down the PADD he was reading and moved over to the window. So far it had been a good way for him to find out what was going on outside the ship. As he gazed out, he noticed that the Starscape was moving very slowly, signifying the ship had dropped out of warp. As he looked further out of his port-side window, he could just make out what seemed to be a nebula, at first glance. Once he stared closer he noticed that it was not a nebula, but in fact what appeared to be some kind of wormhole, or other spatial anomaly. He watched as the blues and whites danced around each other, swirling and spinning, flowing within itself, getting slowly larger and larger as the ship approached. Moments later there was a ship wide announcement, =/\= This is the Captain to all hands. We will be experiencing turbulence for the next 12 hours while we travel the river. That is all. =/\= ~The River?~ Jonas thought to himself. ~Is that what that is?~ Jonas continued to gaze out of the window as the anomaly came closer and closer, then with a rumble along the hull they were engulfed by its mouth. The starscape vanished and all that could be seen was the bright light of the blue and white anomaly, the River. The ship rumbled a second time, then a third. Jonas smiled and was thankful that he wasn't a sufferer of motion sickness. He couldn't imagine feeling sick for the next 12 hours, nor did he really want to. ~I bet this ships doctor is about to be inundated with sick crewmen~ Again, Jonas smiled. Jonas sat back and continued to gaze out of the window. Somehow, the lights were relaxing, almost hypnotic. Jonas closed his eyes and drifted into a sleep. Mission: Reporting In, Day 3 (USS Tremain - Guest Quarters - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 07:40) Jonas had managed to sleep through most of the night, despite the intermittent rumbling of the ship while it travelled the turbulent current of the subspace river. He had woken only once, at around 2300, to have something to eat and drink. However, no sooner had he finished, he had found himself strangely tired again and gone straight back to sleep. The river appeared to have a hypnotic affect on him. Now it was the morning of the third day and Jonas had been woken by a particularly large rumble. It had almost thrown him out of his bed. As Jonas looked at the windows he could still see the swirling of the blue and white river outside. ~Strange, we were due out of the river, weren't we?~ Unsure of his bearings, he staggered to the wash room to freshen himself up and then moved to the closet to dress himself. As he did so he asked, "Computer, what time is it?" =/\= The time is 0740 hours =/\= ~We were due to exit the river 3 hours ago~ thought Jonas to himself. He then shrugged ~I doubt there is anything wrong. From what Commander Wallace was saying, the Tremain makes this trip all the time~ Jonas continued to pull on his uniform. Once he was done he moved over to the mirror to adjust his jacket and make his hair presentable. ~I wonder when we are due to leave the river then?~ Jonas asked himself. Then, all of a sudden, as if in answer to his unspoken question, he felt the ship jolt forwards, and as he turned to look out of the window, he saw the blackness of the starscape re-appear. The ship had come out of the river and returned to normal space. Jonas noticed the yellow lights dim as the ship stood down its alert status and returned to normal operation. Then shortly afterward he noticed the starscape blur slightly as the ship jumped back to warp speed. ~I shouldn't think it will be long now before we arrive at Geneva~ All of a sudden Jonas was very apprehensive, at the same time, excited. (reply: none, any) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (USS Tremain – Guest Quarters – Ensign Jonas Lemar – 10:24) Jonas was tapping his foot in anticipation.  He continued to check his chronometer, sure that they were due to arrive at any moment.  He turned away from the window and picked up the PADD to his side and continued to read the information. ~I had no idea the facilities were so extensive~ he thought to himself as he viewed the deck schematics for the medical facilities onboard Starbase Geneva.  With Facilities spanning 4 entire decks, Jonas could imagine it was as large as most major hospitals. Just as Jonas was beginning to ponder working in the complexity of such an environment, he noticed the ship drop out of warp.  He turned to peer out of the window and his jaw dropped in aw because as he looked and was greeted by the majestic view of the Truidin-Class, Starbase Geneva.  As it moved slowly across his view, the Tremain apparently orbiting the Starbase, Jonas noted the alert status of the ship change to Blue-Alert. ~Time to go I guess~ thought Jonas as he stood and began to pack his things. (Starbase Geneva – Deck 76, Docking Port – Ensign Jonas Lemar – 10:48) Jonas stood in a small crowd of officers; at first glance Jonas guessed they were mostly Ensigns too.  Jonas couldn’t help but wonder to himself, ~Did each of these people go through what I did when boarding the Tremain?!?~ He shrugged and made a quick check to make sure all his belongings were with him.  They were. There was a soft hiss as the airlock released and rolled back to release its occupants.  As it did so, the group slowly moved forward and one by one people began to step onto the deck of Starbase Geneva.  Jonas was the third person to disembark and did so with an eager step.  As his foot touched the deck he was filled with an overwhelming feeling of pride and excitement and couldn’t help but grin widely. ~I can’t believe I'm on Geneva, this is amazing!!~ he thought to himself, ~One of the most advanced installations in the quadrant, and I’m onboard~ Jonas looked around and noticed various other vessels docked.  All different types of class were docked, from Runabouts and Shuttles to the larger Akira and Galaxy class. Jonas was snapped out of his thoughts by a nudge from behind.  He turned and came face to face with the crowd from the airlock.  “Move it along rookie” came the response from the man right behind him.  He didn’t realise it, but Jonas had been holding up the line of people attempting to disembark. Jonas simply smiled, and with another grin he moved onwards away from the airlock.  As he walked around the docking ring, he stopped and decided to collect his thoughts and find a plan of action.  ~First things first …. I need a turbolift~ he thought as he looked around for any obvious signs.  People stood all around, some at consoles, monitoring data, others greeting people as they disembarked, however, he did notice that most other people were filing in one direction, and sure enough, as he looked on, there did appear to be a turbolift. "Well you may as well go for a wander Jonas" he said out loud to himself, "The Nimitz isn't due for a while yet."  ~I wonder if they will let me look around the Medical Facilities onboard~ he thought to himself, suddenly excited all over again at the prospect.  With that he set off in the direction of the turbolift. (reply none) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Resort Training Facilities, Shuttle Bay, Ensign Junior Jonathan Janeway, 10.30)   As janeway walked into the shuttle bay he reflected on what Admiral Jopek had said ~You have a shuttle to catch, Ensign, live long and prosper.~, he wondered which shuttle the Admiral had been talking about, there was a large amount of shuttles in the shuttle bay and a lot of activity happening with most of them! Suddenly a shuttle bay officer walked up to him.   "Hello, you must be Ensign Junior Jonathan Janeway" the officer said seemingly very well informed.   "Hello, yes that would be me, do you know where which shuttle im ment to be heading to?" janeway asked   "Infact i do, ive been told to tell you that Captain  Sash would like you to contact him before leaving so he can arrange what time and how you will be getting to the Nimitz" the officer said   "Ok then i suppose i should do that then where can i contact the captain?" janeway asked   "Over here, we already have an uplink for you" the officer said pointing at a screen   "Thank you very much" janeway said as he walked over to the screen. He looked at the screen to see Captain Sash looking back.   "Ensign Junior Jonathan Janeway Reporting for duty Sir" janeway said as he stood in a salute at the screen.   (Reply Sash) (Posted by Jonathan Bradley) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva- Ops, Com Center- Lt. Kargon- 10:40) The figure on the screen saluted saying, =^=Ensign Jonathan Janeway reporting for duty Sir.=^= Kargon smiled. He loved seeing new cadets coming on their first assignment. They were all so full of awe of everything, and looking to please. How sad that that changes so quickly. "Lt, Kargon," the Klingon nodded back. "I understand that you are to be attached to the Nimitz. They are on a mission at the moment and under communication silence, so we are unable to contact them. However, you are ordered to catch the next transport to Starbase Geneva, where you can await the arrival of the Nimitz. Geneva out." (reply Janeway) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Deck 76- Docking Port - Lt. Tarnell - 10:48) Tarnell's orders had been specific. Don't let this new doctor for the Nimitz out of his sight. As soon as it looked safe he needed to bring him in and have a chat. It was happening to other key personnel on transfers. He smiled at Lemar's reaction to the station. It was pretty awe inspiring, for certain, especially if you've never been on a starbase before. He looked like a fish out of water, or the quintisential country boy in the "big city." This might be easier than he thought. "Well you may as well go for a wander Jonas," he heard the man say to himself. "The Nimitz isn't due for a while yet," and he headed for the turbo lift. Tarnell followed his, slowly catching up. He was almost within reach when he reached the turbo lift. The doors opened and a crowd came off and Lemar disappeared. By the time he got to the lift the door had closed. He pounded the door with his fist. "Damn it," he said under his breath. "Now where would he go?" (reply none) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Deck 76, Docking Port - Commander Jeff Hyland - 10:50) Jeff sighed as he was once again being transferred to yet another duty station, one he really did not look forward to. He stepped up to the port to look out over the docking area of Geneva and was astounded as to how big it was. He had assumed that it would be an impressive size due to how big Geneva was, but, this was more. He then watched as so many Ensigns were disembarking to head out on the next leg of their journey to wherever they would end up. He knew that in the excitement or newness of what was going on, the new Ensigns had lost sight of what they were running headlong into. Some of them would not even see their next birthday and he thought to himself, was it all worth it. "Move it along rookie" Jeff heard from someone along the disembarking line. He looked at the one that it referenced to, a new Ensign, which, again reminded him just how innocent or naive, they were. The Ensign was wearing the colors that indicated he was part of Medical and Jeff wondered which ship that would be getting a new wide eyed Ensign to mold. "Well you may as well go for a wander Jonas" Jeff heard the ensign say out loud to himself. "The Nimitz isn't due for a while yet". Then Jeff stopped in his tracks, he took another good look at the ensign. He had to remember the ensign, so, later he could make sure that the ensign departs with the Nimitz; the same as he. ~Just what I need, another green ensign to have to hold by the hand and change their diapers until they learn how to survive in the real world.~ Jeff said to himself with disgust. "Damn it," a Lieutenant said under his breath, but, not low enough that Jeff would not have to hear it. "Now where would he go?" Jeff had intentionally did not get on the same turbolift as the Ensign as he did not want to start babysitting just yet. But, he had noticed that the Lieutenant must had been under orders to be the one to change the ensign's diapers. What Jeff could not tolerate was a Lieutenant that seemed to have his diaper changed instead of doing his job right. "Well, Lieutenant. If you had been doing your job as you seemed to have been ordered, you would know exactly where a new Doctor would be heading. Use all that education that Starfleet has deemed to give you and get over there." Jeff had the misfortune of having to inform the Lieutenant. "Now, get to it!" ~Damm, where is that bar?~ Jeff said to himself ~I need a drink!~ (reply Jonas, Tarnell, any) (posted by Frank) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Turbolift 39 Alpha - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 10:56) Jonas fiddled excitedly with the buckle of his satchel as he stood patiently in the turbolift. He had already stood for what seemed like an eternity as the busy turbolift stopped and started as people entered and departed on its upward journey through the belly of the starbase. Each time it did so, Jonas would look expectantly out of the doorway, waiting for the deck numbers to reach 16. The turbolift came to a halt again and the doors slide open with a soft hiss. =/\= Deck 16, Main Medical Centre =/\= A grin flashed on to Jonas's face and he hurriedly stepped out of the lift. No sooner had he done so the door slide close and the lift hummed off to its next destination. As he looked around, Jonas spotted a few people in what appeared to be some sort of reception area. A couple were seated, waiting patiently for something or someone. Others stood in conversation while a singular woman sat smiling behind a small desk, seemingly deep in her work. Jonas resisted the urge to approach the desk directly and instead examined a large wall display which showed a map of the facilities. ~Medical Labs, Offices, Quarantine, Emergency Triage ... where do I start?~ Jonas thought to himself as he read through the list of key areas inside the facility. With a nod, he made his choice and began to make his way around the edge of the room, doing his best not to draw attention to himself. He shuffled along briskly, taking in every detail with pure fascination. In moments, he had reached the opposite side of the reception area and side stepped down a corridor out of sight. Jonas noticed large windows on either side of the corridor, each showing large areas set out with biobeds and monitoring displays. ~Must be some kind of ward-room~ he thought as he continued onward. He soon came to a doorway. He quickly checked the designation and shook his head, "Nope, not in here". However, without realising he had activated the doorway and it had slide open to reveal a large open room, three people standing around inside. One was a woman, dressed in medical uniform. She looked over and smiled and she tapped at some controls on the display nearby. Jonas stepped inside nervously, unsure of whether he should really be wandering where ever he pleased. (reply none, any) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Deck 76- Lt. Tarnell- 10:57) Suddenly a voice behind Tarnell spoke out. It was shrouded with disgust and a certain lack of respect. Tarnell turned to see a Commander standing behind him. "Well, Lieutenant," he ranted, "If you had been doing your job as you seemed to have been ordered, you would know exactly where a new Doctor would be heading. Use all that education that Starfleet has deemed to give you and get over there." Tarnell stood still as his brain put it all together. He wanted to smack himself in the head. ~Of course. he'd head for the medical center.~ "Now,get to it!" the commander ordered. "Yes sir," replied Tarnell, and stepped onto the next available lift. "Thank you sir," he called out as the door closed. ~Thank you indeed. Better get those old brain cells working better than that Tar, or it will mean more than just your rank.~ He stepped out of the turbolift on deck 16 and made his way to main medical. He went into the reception area to see if he could spot Lemar. He thought he saw him heading into the back. Tarnell tried to catch up with him, but was not willing to go past the medical line. He did not want to draw attention to himself, yet. He'd just wait until Lemar came out. Tarnell sat in one of the waiting room seats and picked up a PADD that was laying on a table and began to read about the private lives of prominant federation citizens. (reply none, any) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva – Main Medical Reception – Receptionist, Julia Penning – 11:01) Julia thought she was content with her job.  There wasn’t really much to do though, in fact she spent most of the day simply smiling and greeting patients and medical officers as they passed through her reception and into the rooms beyond.  Maybe sometimes she had some organising to do with patient files however she found this tedious.  Other times she would be asked to re-arrange appointments between the patients and the doctors which she found fun, but not entirely stimulating.  On one rare occasion, she had been asked arrange a medical conference, her one true chance to shine.  However, she had mistakenly mixed up the seating arrangements by placing the Selay delegation near to the Antican delegation, which in turn nearly turned into a full scale riot.  Needless to say that Julia’s superiors had not been impressed, so yes, Julie was content with her job, she had no choice. As she finished applying a fresh coat of gloss to her nails, she looked up to admire them.  As she did so she took a quick glance around the reception.  There were the usual patients in the seats, waiting to be seen by the on duty doctors.  Then she noticed a medical officer enter and she quickly ducked her head to look as though she were busy.  The last thing she wanted was to get into more trouble with the doctors. She kept looking up briefly to keep an eye on the doctor’s movements without giving away the fact she was doing so.  She watched and the doctor appeared to shuffle around the edge of the room and slope off down one of the corridors.  ~Strange~ she thought to herself.  ~I’m sure these doctors get weirder every day, what with their funny affairs and secretive agendas~ she thought again, with little cause really. She shrugged and returned her attention to her nails, and begun work on her left hand, under the lip of the desk so no-one would see how much she wasn’t really working. It wasn’t long before someone else had caught her attention.  She looked up as she saw the familiar flash of yellow Starfleet stripe.  A quick glance toward the officer’s mid-section revealed a small holster.  ~Oh my~ she thought to herself, all of a sudden a little more alert than before, ~A man in security uniform … this morning just got a whole lot better~ Julie put on her best smile and her eyes followed the security officer across the reception area.  She watched as he stopped just before the medical rooms and took a quick glance around.  Julie flicked her hair slightly, hoping to catch the attention of the young officer, pouting her lips ever so slightly. She continued to eye him as he appeared to move straight for a seat and settle himself.  She watched as he picked up one of the magazine PADDs and begun to digest its information.  ~A man of literary sophistication … mmm~ she thought to herself and she began to twirl her hair with a finger on her right hand.  She would regularly use big words like these but often had no idea what they really meant.  She continued to gaze at the officer dreamily, hoping for him to look up and notice her. (reply: none, Tarnell, any) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical- Dr. William Kildare- 11:02) Wendy had been working on her patient for nearly half an hour. He was a crewman who had managed to sever his left hand in an acident with a laser welder. It had been a tricky operation, in that there had been a great deal of tissue dameage. A laser welder was a far cry from a scalpel, which would make small and precise cuts. He might aswell of had the hand torn from his body, physically. She had just managed to reconect the last of the nerve endings when the door to the room opened and a young man stepped in. It was bad enough that she was being interrupted, but this... person... was not even sterilized and masked. "What the hell are you doing in here," she yelled at him. "Get a mask on you idiot. If you infect this wound, then I'll show you the true meaning of infection and the application of an enema." (reply Lemar) She saw that he was readying to leave. "Wait, are you a doctor?" (reply Lemar) "Just out of the academy, right?" she said sarcastically. (reply Lemar) "Great," she rolled her eyes, "it's like those people beat the medical training out of you. Look, what I'm doing here is really a two man job. Go get masked and gloved, and you can give me a hand. No pun intended." (reply Lemar) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical – Ensign Jonas Lemar - 11:03) As he continued to look around the room he noticed what appeared to be a surgery set-up.  The lights were dimmed on that side of the room.  He noticed the deep maroon of the surgical gown worn by a doctor who appeared to concentrating on the patient on the bio-bed.  All of a sudden the surgeon turned and shot him a look. "What the hell are you doing in here," barked the surgeon, a female voice.  "Get a mask on you idiot.  If you infect this wound, then I'll show you the true meaning of infection and the application of an enema." Jonas was a little lost for words and wasn’t sure how to respond.  ~This is what you get for wandering where you aren’t supposed to~ he thought to himself.  “I’m …. I’m sorry, I’ll leave” Jonas turned back toward the doorway, intending to leave before he got another mouthful from the obviously annoyed woman. "Wait, are you a doctor?" she asked in an inquisitive tone. He stopped and turned back to the surgeon and smiled sheepishly, “Yes, I’m the new doctor for the USS Nimitz.”  Unsure of whether this doctor had even heard of the Nimitz, he added, “I’m Ensign Jonas Lemar.” "Just out of the academy, right?" she said sarcastically. Jonas shuffled uncomfortably before admitting, “Yes, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m doing!” "Great, it's like those people beat the medical training out of you.  Look, what I'm doing here is really a two man job.  Go get masked and gloved, and you can give me a hand.  No pun intended." With a smile, Jonas walked in further and placed his bag on the ground.  No sooner had he done so, a nurse approached him and guided him to a small sonic sink where he could clean his hands.  The nurse aided him again in putting on a surgical gown, then handed him a pair of gloves and a mask.  Jonas was familiar with these and put them on easily.  The nurse walked back to her instruments. Jonas approached the surgical bed and stood opposite the surgeon, “Right, what do you need me to do?” (reply: Kildare) “Looks like this guy was a mess.  What happened to him?” Jonas asked as he followed the doctor’s instructions. (reply: Kildare) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Shuttle bay- Lt. Kargon - 11:04)   Kargon had been monitoring the incoming ships for the last day, since speaking with  the Nimitz's new ATAC.  The poor kid didn't seem to be sure whether he was coming or going, as was the case for many newly graduated cadets.  They were sending these cadets out into the world much too soon, as far as Kargon was concerned, and it was going to cost unneccesary lives.   Many people assume that because of the Klingon way of life seemed to be overcoming one struggle after another, that this kind of self sacrifice was a preferable way to die.  This was an erroneous thought.  A wasted life was just that, a waste.  It would be more glorious to die in battle after having killed many enemies.  These children, for that's what they truely were, were simply going to die.  No honor, no dishonor, but just the same deadness.  At least Klingon warriors spent their lives preparing for the battle that might take their life.  It was not so with Starfleet.   He caught sight of Janeway and stepped to him.  "Ensign Janeway?"   (reply Janeway)   "Welcome to Starbase Geneva," Kargon said flatly.  "I thought you might like to have a little tour of the station before getting settled in.  There are also a couple of other people waiting for the Nimitz, and I can direct you to them."   (reply Janeway)   "Then follow me."  Kargon led Janeway from the crowded shuttle bay and gave him a quick tour of the floors between the bay and the promenade decks.  "You'll find a variety of establishments that can satisfy most of your needs, although I would stay away from Callaghan's bar on level 26.  Their Klingon food there is the worst.  No live ghak."  He shook his head with disgust, and contemplated going over to the bar and killing the owner, for the thousandth time.   Then he took a deep breath and refocused.  He tapped his comm badge.  "Computer, locate Commander Jeff Hyland."   [Commander Hyland is on deck 29, section C, room 16.]   "If you're not sure where to start, that may be a good beginning.  I believe the commander is going to be on the command staff of the Nimitz, it might be a good idea to get to know him.  The turbolift to that section is over there."   Kargon pointed to a turbo lift.  "Good luck Ensign Janeway.  Unless you have any further questions I'lll head back to my duty station."   (reply Janeway) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Shuttle bay - Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway - 11:04)   He caught sight of Janeway and stepped to him.  "Ensign Janeway?"   "Yes, sir Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway Reporting for duty sir!" Janeway replied, as he headed for the turboblift. Janeway stepped into the turbolift.   "Deck 29, section C" Janeway said to the computer, the turbolift started to slowly move upwards as it gradually gained speed then suddenly stopped and the doors opened at Deck 29, section C. Janeway walked out looking at each number on each door looking for room 16, he kept moving forward and then ~aaaa there it is~. Janeway knocked on the door.   (Reply Hyland)   Janeway stepped in. he saw the Commander in the room, he walked towards him.   "Commander nice to meet you, Im Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway, i belive ill be serving under you on the Nimitz." Janeway startedthen stopped because he sensed the Commander wanted to say something.   (Reply Hyland)   "Lt. Kargon told me to come and see you if i was unsure where to start, ive only just arrived." It was his job to observe, and he was usually pretty good at it. When he first saw the nurse at the reception desk, he couldn't help but think how out of place she seemed to be. She looked a little too good to be working as a hospital receptionist. As he sat and watched for Lemar his eyes kept coming back to the lovely receptionist. The way she played with her hair, and looked dreamily back at him. He couldn't help but notice an... interest there. he adjusted in his seat to try and keep those thoughts out of his mind, but she was quite alluring. Finally he couldn't stand it any more. He stood and walked over to the receptionist. "So," Tarnell said, trying to be nonchalant, "do I know you? I get the distinct feeling tha we've met before. Or perhaps," he offered with a smile, " we were just destined to meet?" (reply Julia) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 11:05) Lemar came back to the surgical room, cleaned, predded, and dressed. "Right, what do you need me to do?" Wendy nodded, approvingly, "Well, at least you look like a doctor now. Let's see what you can do. I'm in the process of reattaching this man's hand to his arm. I need help attaching the tendons and muscles, while I work on the blood vessels." "Looks like this guy was a mess. What happened to him?" Lemar asked as he picked up the micro-cellular regenerator, and a set of micro-clamps. Wendy watched him work for a moment. Satisfied that Lemar wasn't going to permanently do more damage to the poor man she began to talk. "Crewman Jones, here, had a little accident with his laser welder. It happens when they get bored and decide to do stupid things like... oh have welding races. They forget the saftey precautions, and suddenly, off comes a limb. At least we didn't have to worry about him bleeding to death, since the wounds cauterize immediately. However, It does make it a little difficult for the repair that we need to do." She looked over at his work again, watching to see if he was having any troubles. "How you doing over there?" (reply Lemar) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical - Ensign Jonas Lemar - 11:08) The doctor began to explain how the patient had come to be in this position.  As she did so, Jonas set to work. Jonas applied the micro-clamps so he was better able to see what he was working on.  It was lucky that the doctor had given him this task.  The muscles and tendons were much easier to see, due to their size.  ~Right then, time to get your hands dirty~ he thought to himself as he gently pinched one of the tendons and pulled it slightly to examine it. Noticing that the tendons themselves appeared to be severed, he quickly located the matching half to the tendon he currently had and applied another set of micro-clamps to keep them together as he picked up the micro-cellular regenerator The doctor finished her explanation and was now looking over at Jonas.  After a moment or two of watching him, she asked, "How you doing over there?" Without looking up and trying to sustain his concentration, he replied, “Well, I’m just re-attaching the flexor tendons now.  The muscle seems intact which should make the patients recovery a little easier.” (reply: Kildare) Jonas finished off his sweep with the regenerator and deactivated it.  He leaned in a little closer to try and examine his work.  Once he was satisfied he removed the micro-clamps.  The tendon held and Jonas couldn’t help but breathe a small sigh of relief.  ~It’s not over yet, that’s just one of five~ he thought to himself as he tried to locate another of the flexor tendons. (reply: Kildare) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical - Dr. Wendy Kildare- 11:10) "Well, I'm just re-attaching the flexor tendons now," Lemar said. "The muscle seems intact which should make the patients recovery a little easier." "Esxcellent," Wendy replied, not looking up from her tedious work of repairing blood vessels. "Just go slowly. It doesn't have to be fast, just right, the first time." She took a moment to look over at the young graduate and see that he was workking with a certain amount of confidance. With that in her mind, Kildare went back to the work she had. The problem with the laser njury was that the veins and arteries had all been cauterized. True, this kept the crewman from bleeding to death, but now they were going to have to cut back several centinmeters of tissue to get a good connection. With her laser scalpel Wendy made her fiist incision. The vascular clamps held the artery in place so that she she could find the other end. A trickle of red blood oozed from the new wound and began to fill the cavity of the missing hand. "Keep suction on that wound," she ordered the nurse standing behind her. She finally found the other end and cut it back aswell. Using the vascular regenerator, she began the repair to the vessel. It went that way for a long time, finding both ends of each vessel, making each end viable, and then fusing them together. By the time they were done, she had blood smeared on her gown, and a few splatters on her face and mask. As she completed the last graph, she stepped back and breathed a sigh of relief. "Ok, just to remove these last clamps," she said. As she removed the second clamp, the last repair failed, and the vein burst open. Spurts of blood shot into the air, making a nice arch, before it fell across Wendys cheek. "Damin it," she cursed under her breath, and quickly reapplied the clamps. She grabbed her hypo spray and shot a coagulating agent into the wound. Then she reapplied the vascular regenerator. The second time the repair held. "There," she said, "now we just need to seal the skin and we're done. So doctor, what you recommend for post operative treatment?" (reply Lemar) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical – Ensign Jonas Lemar – 11:28) As per her instruction, Jonas took his time to get the tendon repairs correct, first time.  It took him nearly 15 minutes to complete the repairs to the flexor tendons.  ~That’s one set down, now for the back of the hand~ Jonas began to look for the extensor tendons.  As he located them he began to perform similar repairs as he had done with the flexor tendons. When he was almost finished with the repair to the fourth tendon, his concentration broke as blood began to spurt into the air from the patients wound.  As he looked up he saw the surgeon covered in blood.  He instantly stopped what he was doing and stepped back. “Damn it,” he heard the surgeon say curse under her breath as she moved to stop the bleeding.  Jonas smiled and moved back in to complete the repairs to the fourth and fifth tendon. As he finished off the last repair, the surgeon, who also appeared to have finished, said, “There, now we just need to seal the skin and we're done.  So doctor, what do you recommend for post operative treatment?" As Jonas picked up a dermal regenerator he thought back quickly to his academy training.  Many years ago the treatment was a lengthy process including plenty of rest and recuperation as the bones and muscles took their time to heal.  These days none of that was needed, thanks to medical advances, and equipment like the micro-cellular regenerator. He checked the settings on the dermal regenerator and began to apply it to the incision.  As he moved the wound slowly began to disappear.  Once he was satisfied the wound was reacting as expected he began to answer the surgeon’s question, “Well, I’d advise the patient take the next few days off-duty to rest.  I’d then advise a short course of physiotherapy before returning to duty, to ensure the patient regains full motion and movement in his wrist, and to identify any follow up treatment that may or may not be required.” ~Wow, did I really just say all that?~ Jonas thought to himself as he had left himself a little stunned.  He had spoken with a confidence he didn’t realise he had.  He smiled, and although he was sure he had answered correctly, he wondered if the surgeon would agree. (reply: Kildare) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical Reception - Julia Penning - 11:29) It seemed like only moments ago when she had first flicked her hair oh so innocently in the direction of the Lieutenant. Before she knew it they had been chatting for nearly half an hour. ~He's so dreamy~ she couldn't help but think to herself. ~Just wait until the girls hear about this~ she couldn't help but continue to smile widely showing off her beautiful white teeth. "Is your uniform new?" She wasn't entirely sure why she asked, she just felt like she needed to ask something herself instead of letting the Lieutenant do all the talking. "You have really shiny boots!" The Lieutenant stepped back slightly and Julia looked him up and down. Needless to say she wasn't really checking out his boots. (reply: Tarnell) Julia giggled and twirled her hair some more but her attention was soon drawn as there was a commotion just outside the reception area. A man seemed to be barking orders at one of the nursing staff. ~Strange, its normally me the doctors are yelling at . and he's not even wearing the standard blue, he's wearing red.~ Julia shrugged ever so slightly and decided to ignore it since it wasn't her being shouted at. "Excuse me ma'am" A voice came from beside her. She looked briefly to see a man standing on the opposite side of the desk. She patted Tarnell's hand lightly and mouthed that she would be just a moment. Then she swivelled her chair slightly to turn part way to face the other man. "Yes? Can I help you?" The man looked a little frustrated and said, "Well yes. I need to make a follow up appointment." She smiled, flashing those teeth again. "I'm sorry, you'll have to wait. The Lieutenant here has come for." she paused and looked over at him seductively, "He's her for an examination" She quickly straightened her face. "I'm afraid you'll have to wait!" Before the man could protest, she turned quickly back to face Lieutenant Tarnell. "Now, where were we?" (reply: Tarnell) Julia listened intently, mesmerised by the sound of the Lieutenants voice and before she knew it, another 10 minutes had passed by. She took a quick look around and noticing the queue at the other side of the desk had grown to include 6 people. She flashed a smile and mouthed the words, 'Just a moment' As Julia looked back she noticed a doctor appear from around the corner. She instantly sat up and turned her chair toward the queue saying, "And how many I help you today?" Even if she took more time to look at the doctor, she wouldn't have noticed it was the same strange doctor that was shuffling about earlier. He strode with confidence now, almost like he owned the place. She looked back very briefly to the Lieutenant and as if to keep up a charade, she said, "Take a seat sir and someone will be with you shortly." She looked back to the queue and set about neutralising the crowd of impatient people now before her. All she could do was flash her smile and hope for the best. (reply: none, any in Main Medical) (posted by Davee) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical Center - Commander Jeff Hyland - 11:30) What Jeff needed was a good stiff drink for the long wait for the Nimitz to arrive. He wanted to just crawl down to some dive that most Starfleet Officers would not even think to visit. That way he would not be bothered by those stuffed shirts while he drank. He did not want to have to train another officer in the proper ways to leave a man and his drink alone. But, it was just a bit too early for most and if they saw him, they would report him. He did not want to start out his new *Position* with a mark on his new *Chance*, as the admiral had so eloquently stated. The Admiral was putting him on the Nimitz with a Captain named Devan Sash. Jeff's first encounter with this man had been in the academy. He had thought Sash a bit old to be in his first year as an Academy student. They soon began to become friends and Jeff imparted more information to Sash than he had to his other students. Jeff could see that Sash had the mark of a really good captain in him. It seems that he was right. Back then Jeff did not drink so heavy or so much, but that was then not now. Sash had not seen him as he is now and Jeff really had hoped that he never would, ever. Jeff had kept abreast of Sash's career, never bothering to watch others. He was very happy the way Sash had climbed up in ranks and how he had gained respect. Sash had respect from not only his peers, but, also his superiors and that made Jeff happy. Jeff was not happy that at the rank Sash was, he would be able to read up on the crew that was being assigned to him. Jeff knew that Sash would do the same to him and then he would find out his past, this he was not happy with. He knew that Sash would no longer have the respect he did before toward him and Jeff knew it was his own fault. No one really understood him or even cared to find out why he was the way he was. He was not sure that he could talk about it to anyone either. Now Sash was fighting against *Starfleet* as it was known and now they had placed Jeff on that same side. Sash and his crew has destroyed the Alamo then stole a freighter full of fuel. Jeff had enough respect for Sash to know that if he was on the other side then Doenitz had done what was being said of him. He did not like this Doenitz and had actually punched his lights out at one time, which, felt really good at the time. But, then again, he got in trouble as usual and lost his rank. The Nimitz has had a very distinguished career since it's inception and a variety of Captains. The one captain that had broken the starship in, as they would say, was Captain then Admiral Aragorn, a Vegan of some stature. Most Vegans never ventured past their farms, but, Aragorn had. The last anyone had heard of him was that he left on a secret mission with Captain Rivers and only she returned. The whole incident had been deemed highly secret by Admiral LoDonna. Jeff had liked the Admiral, they had many happy drinks together and that Vegan drink was one of the best he had. He had lost sight of where Captain Rivers went or even what happened to her career. One day she had returned and then there were no word of where she had been assigned or even seen. Captain Rivers and Admiral Aragorn had been two of a long list of honorable Starship Captains. Jeff was sure that Sash would become one of them. Jeff had been walking around and thinking not really knowing or caring where he went. He had to find some quarters soon as it probably would be some time before the Nimitz arrived. He looked up to see that he was near the main medical center and decided that maybe he would enter to find that ensign. He did not understand why he wanted to find the ensign other than maybe to keep himself out of the local bar and stay sober. Jeff rationalized that maybe he wanted to ensure the Ensign had a place to stay while on the station. He really wanted to be sober when he reported to Sash, but, it also depended on how long before the Nimitz arrived. As he entered, he looked around at the spacious medical center. It was much larger than a starship, but, smaller than the one they had at headquarters. He looked at the generous amount of Doctors, Nurses, orderlies and various technicians that was needed to keep something this big running. He noticed also that there were quite a few good looking nurses amongst them. He thought maybe later he may be able to get up with one of them for the night. "I am looking for a Wide Eyed Ensign that probably just arrived here. He is about five foot ten or eleven with mousey brown hair. Have you seen this individual?" Jeff asked the first person that came by him. "I am sorry sir, but, no I haven't." The guy replied and was about to walk away. "Well, then you will look around for him now." Jeff ordered him and watched as the man turned back to him. He was about to say something and Jeff squared himself on him then the man nodded and walked off. It was not long before the individual returned, "Sir, the Doctor in question is currently in the operating room and can not be disturbed." "You will show me where he is and I will wait outside until he finishes." Jeff replied as he looked in the direction of where the man just came from. He started walking in that direction when the man stepped in front of him. "Sir, you are not allowed to enter that area." He informed Jeff. "Fine" Jeff told the man then continued, "you will inform the ensign to contact me if he has any trouble finding temporary quarters. You will also inform him to contact me sometime before the Nimitz arrives." Jeff did not wait to see if the man understood what he wanted. He knew that if the man did not pass the information on, he would be back to discuss it with his boss. Jeff just left and headed for the quartermaster to gain temporary quarters for himself. He didn't much like wearing Starfleet issue gear, he was a scientist, not a military type. He had been working for many hours... more than he could remember... on the invention Starfleet had commissioned him to work on. He still hadn't reached a breakthrough. The conversion process of dark matter was harder than he was led to believe through his computations. What's more it was dangerous. If he wasn't careful, someone could figure out how to use what he hoped to be a limitless energy source for a weapon. At any rate, he was feeling a bit woozy and headachey. "Ummm... excuse me," stated the Grazerite softly, blinking his huge brown eyes. (Reply any in Medical) "Ummm... I'm sorry to trouble you, but I believe I could use some treatment... if that's okay," said Engtamn, never raising his voice. He hated confrontation, he hated violence and he hated people who were impolite... however, the pain was growing ever greater. It was probably fatigue, but he was so wrapped up in his work, he couldn't sleep. In fact, he couldn't eat, he could barely breathe at times. It didn't help being told that it was likely he was going to be transferred to senior staff in a few weeks as the Acting Chief Science Officer. He knew Starfleet was undermanned, but he lacked the training to be a senior officer, all he wanted to do was play with his experiments. (Reply any in Medical) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - deck 29, Section C, room 16 - Commander Jeff Hyland - 11:35) Jeff had left the medical center to acquire his quarters. As he walked in with his belongings, he told the computer to turn the lights down very low. He want the lights down low like a dirty dive where he had been drinking when he was stationed on earth. Having the lights low would save his eyes later when they would bother him and also he would not have to turn them out to fall asleep. He threw his stuff in the corner after getting an elongated box out of a bag. He then walked over to one of the darker corners of the room to sit down, as he opened the collar of his uniform, and put up his feet. He took the bottle out of the box and looked at it. He had went through many of the same kind over the years and this was just one more. It never bothered him over the years to sit and drink until he could not remember who he was or what happened in the past. Now as he poured himself a two fingered glass, he was reminded of who he would be serving under. He wanted to just sit in the dark and slowly get drunk once again.. But, fate had it in for him once again when the chime on the door chirped. At first He thought of not answering it, But, he did have duties while waiting for the Nimitz as the corralling of new crewmen. He really did not want to see anyone at this moment. "Enter if you must" He replied in a disgusted tone. Then he watched as an Human Ensign no more than twenty five earth years old, as far as Jeff could figure, walked up to him. ~It seems that they get younger every year.~ Jeff thought to himself. "Commander nice to meet you, Im Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway, I believe I'll be serving under you on the Nimitz." Janeway said as he stopped in front of him. "Yes yes, I know or otherwise you would not be bothering me. What is it you need, Ensign?" Jeff said as he took another sip of his drink. "Lt. Kargon told me to come and see you if I was unsure where to start, I've only just arrived." The ensign explained. Jeff chuckled at what the ensign had told him. "Well my good Ensign, have they stopped teaching cadets to think for themselves now? I would think that since we are waiting for our duty station to arrive, that first quarters would be the first thing on our agenda. That way we wouldn't have to sleep in the loading dock, am I right?" Jeff told the ensign and then seeing the startled look on his face, continued as he got up and came more into the light. "Ensign, if no one has told you, we are at war and I expect you to take imitative to accomplish things that the academy should have taught you." Jeff pointed out to the ensign and paused as he took another sip of his drink. "I am sorry, where are my manners, do you want a drink?" Jeff asked as he held up his almost empty glass. (Janeway) "Just as well anyways, I probably would get into trouble from offering you one." Jeff admitted, as he motioned for the Ensign to sit. "Now where were we" Jeff asked basically himself not really eliciting an answer from the ensign. "Ah, yes. Since we have got some time on our hands, since you are going to be part of the Nimitz security team, why not team up with the Station's security and learn what you can from them. After you get your temporary quarters, of course." (Janeway) "Just check with me each day to let me know what was accomplished." Jeff asked hoping that the conversation was over. "Oh yes I guess I have to say the old saying, Welcome to the nimitz and I look forward to working with you." (reply from Janeway, any) (posted by Frank) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical - Dr. WendyKildare- 11:35) Wendy listened to the follow up regiment that Lemar came up with and approved. Although he did miss something. "What about post opperative antibiotics, and neurostimulants? The stimulants would help the nerve endings heal, and the antibiotics to fight any possible POF's (post operative infections)." (reply Lemar) "You did pretty well for yourself and the patient, today," Wendy smiled a kind and warm smile. "I appreciate your help, this would have taken forever by myself. I know you didn't come down here to get sucked into a procedure, so I"ll let you go." (reply Lemar) "Peraps we can meet up later," Wendy suggested, "if you're still waiting for your ship. I get off shift in a couple of hours." (reply Lemar) Wendy smiled as Lemar left the room. He would be a fine addition to a starship. She just hoped that he had a CO that didn't ruin him for actually practicing medicine. (reply Lemar) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Main Medical – Ensign Jonas Lemar – 11:35) Jonas cursed himself silently.  He was too busy being pleased with himself and his explanation that he missed one of the most obvious points.  No major surgical procedure is guaranteed to be clear from infection.  A course of antibiotics is a must, and he should have known that. With a slight smile, Jonas looked up, “Ah yes, I should have remembered that”.  It was all he could think to say, without further embarrassment to himself. The doctor simply smiled in return.  "You did pretty well for yourself and the patient, today.  I appreciate your help.  This would have taken forever by myself. I know you didn't come down here to get sucked into a procedure, so I’ll let you go." Jonas couldn’t help but grin now.  It felt good to be praised for something he had done, especially something he loved to do, something he was good at. "Perhaps we can meet up later," said the doctor, "if you're still waiting for your ship.  I get off shift in a couple of hours." Jonas stepped away from the patient and toward the nurse, who was standing ready to remove his surgical gown and help him to clean his hands.  As he did so he nodded approval and said, “I’d like that…although I can’t very well just keep calling you doctor, can I,” He finished cleaning his hands and turned back to the doctor with a smile, “So what’s your name?” (reply: Kildare) “Well then…” Jonas smirked and continued, “…Doctor Wendy Kildare, it has been a pleasure to get my hands dirty and help out.  I’d love to meet up after your shift, although you’ll have to name a place as I have only been here a few hours and don’t know my way around yet” (reply: Kildare) With a nod he replied, “That’s settled then, lunch at 14:00”.  With a final grin and a polite nod of his head, he turned toward the door, picked up his bag which was just where he left it, and left the room.  The doors slid behind him. Jonas strode now with an air of confidence.  He had just completed his first medical procedure outside of the academy and he felt fantastic.  He felt ready, now more than ever, to get onboard his new ship and get settled. A few moments later he found himself back at the reception area.  It appeared a lot busier now that it did before.  Not many were seated but there was quite a queue at the reception area.  The receptionist appeared deep in conversation with man in security uniform.  ~He must have a very in depth query~ thought Jonas to himself. With a slight shrug he set off past the crowd on his way toward the turbolift, though he didn’t get very far as a man approached him hurriedly.  The man smiled, “Ah Doctor Lemar, I trust all went well with the procedure?” Jonas frowned momentarily, wondering how this man new where he had been.  Then he realised that this was a Medical Centre, almost a hospital.  Procedures like the one he had just performed would have been put on record, including the doctors who performed it.  Instantly his frown turned to a wide smile.  “Yes, very well thank you.” “That is very good to hear.”  After a moment pause he continued, “I am sorry to bother you, but a rather loud and assertive individual came by about 10 minutes ago looking for you.” Jonas raised an eyebrow, unsure of what to make of this information.  As the man proceeded to describe the man, Jonas thought to himself ~Why would anyone be looking for me onboard Geneva…unless it has something to do with the Nimitz~ “The station computer identifies him as one Commander Jeff Hyland.” The man paused there, as if to allow for some sort of congratulation. Jonas simply continued to look perplexed as the name meant nothing to him, “Sorry, I don’t recognise the name.” With a short nod, the man simply smiled and continued, “Well he was rather insistent that I tell you to contact him should you need any help acquiring temporary quarters, although to be honest I would simply consult the station quartermaster.”  He gave a quick look, as if the commander were in ear shot, “He’s a lot nicer than this Commander Hyland” Jonas smirked, “Well, I think I will be fine sorting it out on my own.” As Jonas turned to leave the man called him one last time, “One more thing Doctor, he said that you must contact him before the arrival of the Nimitz.”  He shrugged, “I assume that’s a ship of some sort” With another smile and a nod he gave his thanks and turned back down the corridor.  ~There’s plenty of time before the Nimitz arrives.  I’ll look out for this Commander Hyland later this afternoon, after I’ve met up with Wendy~ and with the thought of her in his head, he set off down the corridor, not entirely sure of where he was heading. Janeway said as he saluted the Commander. Then turned around and headed towards the door. ~Right quarters! hmmmm where do i get them from?~ Janeway asked himself ~aaaaa hang on let me try something~ Janeway thought to himself as the doors behind him slid shut! "Computer, state designated quarters for Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway" Janeway said to the computer hoping for once in his life something would be as simple as this.   "There are no designated quarters for Enisgn JG Jonathan Janeway at this present time" The computer replied.   ~I knew it wouldn't be as easy as that, damn!" Janeway said as he now looked confused about where he should go to get quarters. He looked around hoping to see someone he could ask but there was no one. He wondered slowly to the turbolift, stepped in then wondered where to go from there. ~hang on the commander mentioned the Station's security team ill go there and ask them!~ Janeway thought to himself as he stood in the turbolift for a minute not moving.   "Stations Security" Janeway said as he watched the turbolift doors slide shut.   (Starbase Geneva - Station Security - Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway -11:43)   The turbolift doors opened and Janeway stepped out. He looked round to see many eyes looking at him!   "Erm Hi, Im Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway, im waiting for the Nimitz to arrive back and i was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to somewhere i can get me some temporary quarters? and also Commander Jeff Hyland told me to pair up with you guys untill the Nimitz arrived, is that ok?" Janeway said still noticing how many eyes were apon him!   (reply anyone in Station Security) (posted by Jono) Stardate:2406.11.30 (Starbase Geneva - Station Security - SC - Lieutenant {JG} Ssslars Ssslotha -1145)   Ssslars looked around the office. He seemed to have packed everything. The Saurian had been working in this office for the last few months, while awaiting reassignment. The station was still in refit, there were not many merchants onboard, mostly Starfleet personnel either awaiting transfers or refitting key systems on the station. Suddenly, an Ensign entered the room.   "Erm Hi, Im Ensign JG Jonathan Janeway, im waiting for the Nimitz to arrive back and i was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to somewhere i can get me some temporary quarters? and also Commander Jeff Hyland told me to pair up with you guys untill the Nimitz arrived, is that ok?" We can alwayssss usssse an exsssstra hand. For future referencsssse it would be bessst for you to vissssit the Quartermasssster for cabin assssignments. However, if you can wait for a minute I can look into your accomodatsssionssss," stated Ssslars blinking his verticle eye lids.   (reply Janeway)   Ssslars nodded and tapped a few keys. "You will find your quartersssss on Deck 5, Unit 28. Feel free to sssset up your quarterssss and then return here. I am on sssstation patrol at 1400. He thought that the Ensign was just so excited about joining Starfleet and getting to his first Starship, that he forgot to think. Maybe all new Ensigns were and are the same when they leave the Academy. They all leave school wanting to show everyone that they deserve to be in starfleet and where they head for their first duty station. Jeff knew that he had not given Janeway the time and attention he deserved. He just had not wanted to take the roll that he was being placed so soon. He knew now that he had to show Janeway the attention he deserved, but, he was glad that Janeway had followed his advice to get some time with station security. It would only help him out in the long run. Jeff had entered his suggestion into the console in his room so that he would have a record of what Janeway was told. He also would be presenting it to Sash when he reported to him. It would be a good mark on Janeway's record if nothing happened. "Computer take a message to be delivered to Ensign Janeway's Quarters, Private and Urgent." Jeff said as he sat down at his console once again. "Ensign Janeway, I owe you an applogy. If you would like to join me after you get off, just ask the computer where I am. I look forward to more discussion with you." Jeff dictated to the computer. "Computer save and send."
